You are not alone; social media giant Facebook is down

You are not alone; the social media giant Facebook is down in many countries around the world for almost a half an hour starting from 6 pm (UK time). In some cases, Facebook’s site and application both are suffering an outage.

The reason for this outage is currently unknown and there has been no statement from Facebook, however, users are taking questions on Twitter wondering what is going on.

Those on Facebook can see “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can” and “Service Unavailable” message while WhatsApp users are unable to connect and send or receive messages.

Those trying to send new messages to their contacts, all they can see is or “connecting” status. Instagram users are also blocked from posting anything through the app.

According to the outage map displayed on DownDetecter, the scale of this outage can be seen affecting users in Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, and the United States. However, users in the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe are also reporting that they can’t access the site.

Those who can log in to Facebook are having issues with browsing the site. It is unclear what’s exactly going on but we are keeping an eye on the situation and once there is an update from Facebook we will update our readers.

It’s noteworthy that lately, Facebook has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Last month, Facebook revealed that hackers had stolen access tokens of 50 million accounts while last week BBC reported that hackers were selling private messages of 81,000 Facebook users on an underground forum.
