Syrian Electronic Army, the pro- Bashar Al Assad Syrian hackers, hacked the official twitter accounts of Futbol Club Barcelona (FC Barcelona) and sent several tweets from three official accounts of the club.

The compromised accounts included Spanish, Catalonian and English handles where all the posts contained link to the profile of “Syrian Electronic Army.”

The hacker’s message criticized the Blaugrana’s ties with Qatar, a nation in the same Arabic region as the civil-war torn Syria. Qatar Airways sponsored the club’s shirts for the current season. The recurring tweet read:

  • Dear FC Barcelona management, don’t let the Qatari money funds you, it’s full of blood and kill [sic].”

It took over about 10 minutes for the Spanish and Catalonian profiles to delete the messages.

The message from the English outlet took even longer to delete; the hackers were able to give a heads up to the Clasico rivals Real Madrid.

  • “Special hi to Real Madrid,” read the hacker’s message.

The mode of attack by the hackers is still not clear. They have also threatened The Forbes with impending attacks while claiming that the attack on FC Barcelona is over.
