Torrentz.eu, largest Torrent Search Engine Shuts Down; Quits Operation

Torrentz.eu has been shut down by its owner — Another blow to the fans after shutting down of Kickass Torrents domain!

Torrentz.eu, one of the Internet’s largest torrent meta-search engine has announced shutting down its operation worldwide which is yet another dark day for the users.

The Torrentz domain never hosted any torrents, it only indexed torrents from major torrent websites and the shutdown comes weeks after KickassTorrents was forcibly shut down and its owner arrested by US authorities in Poland.

Torrentz.eu was operational since 2003 from Finland and owned by an individual going by the name of Flippy. In the last 13years Torrentz became one of the most viewed and known sites with Alexa rank of 186 worldwide, but,in a surprising announcement on the domain homepage today the visitors were shocked to read the immediate shutdown notice stating that:

“Torrentz was a free, fast and powerful meta-search engine combining results from dozens of search engines. Torrentz will always love you. Farewell.”

As mentioned before Torrentz.eu never hosted torrents like ThePirateBay or Kickass Torrents yet giants like Hollywood and MPAA were gearing up for shutting the platform down. In 2014 Torrentz.eu had its domain name suspended following a request from the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit in the UK however it came back after registering the .eu domain on a new registrar.

TorrentFreak reports that Torrentz.eu owner contacted them but refrained from further comment for now, however, the shutdown shows torrenting platforms are facing the wrath of Hollywood and other media giants keeping in view how KickassTorrents owner was tracked all the way to Poland with the help of an IP address and iTunes purchase

Now that Torrentz.eu is a thing of past what’s next? or who’s the next one to go down? ThePirateBay? or ExtraTorrent? Remember, in May 2016, The Pirate Bay was forced to give up its .SE domain name after a Swedish Court ruled against the two domain servers but it came back with ThePirateBay.org domain within no time.

Stay tuned, this article will be updated if the Torrentz owner comes up with an official statement.
