Reportedly, John McAfee has died of suicide hours after the Spanish High Court authorized his extradition to the United States.
According to local Spanish media, Mr. John McAfee, the founder of antivirus company McAfee has died in a prison near Barcelona, Spain.
75-year-old McAfee allegedly died by Suicide on Wednesday afternoon, hours after the Spanish High Court authorized his extradition to the United States where he would face tax evasion-related charges. Reuters reports cite confirmation from the Catalan justice department.
It is worth noting that Mr. McAfee was arrested on October 6th, 2020 in Spain over tax evasion charges. The software entrepreneur was awaiting extradition to the United States.
A look at the March 5th, 2021 press release from the United States Department of Justice reveals that besides tax evasion on millions of dollars of income, Mr. McAfee was also indicted for cryptocurrency fraud and money laundering conspiracy crimes.
During the court hearing in the Spanish High Court via video link, Mr. McAfee maintained that all charges against him were politically motivated, and if extradited to the US, he will be sent to prison for the rest of his life.
The US believes I have hidden crypto. I wish I did but it has dissolved through the many hands of Team McAfee (your belief is not required), and my remaining assets are all seized. My friends evaporated through fear of association.
I have nothing.
Yet, I regret nothing.

Europe should not extradite those accused of non-violent crimes to a court system so unfair—and prison system so cruel—that native-born defendants would rather die than become subject to it. Julian Assange could be next.
Until the system is reformed, a moratorium should remain. https://t.co/tUociySmVy
