A Pakistani hacker going with the handle of rOOx had hacked two official websites belong to Indian cities of  Kozhikode aka Calicut and Malappuram, along with defacing the official Kerala government server with 17 high profile websites.

The hack was conducted on 14th August to 18th August, 2013 in which hacker left a deface page along with a message on all hacked websites with no further explanation about the hack. The deface message was expressed in following words:

  • Hacked by r00x, you GoT 0wn3d By rOOX,  ConTacT: r00x@ymail.com

After analyzing the targeted sites, I can say that this hack was a high profile one and sites defaced belong to top government institutions such as Police, Kottayam District Court, Kerala government’s Department of Culture, Malabar Devaswom Board, The Kerala State Higher Education Council, website of Indian Systems of Medicine Department, official site of VIMUKTI-Mass Movement for Tobacco and Drugs Free Alappuzha under government of Kerala, Department of Higher Education, Homeopathy Department, Cluster of Colleges, Ernakulam and 8 other high profile websites under the government of Kerala.

List of all hacked websites along with their mirror can be found below:

This is not the first time when Kerala government has been under cyber attack, in past it was attacked by hackers and left with successful defacement.

At the time of publishing this article, all websites were restored and working online.
