You are not alone; Instagram is down for many

The photo and video-sharing social networking service Instagram has been hit by a massive outage and currently down for many users around the world.

According to the outage map displayed on DownDetecter, the scale of this outage can be seen affecting users around the world including Brazil, India, United States, Italy, United Kingdom and some parts of Russia.

Instagram has acknowledged the issue and tweeted that the company is aware of the problem. “We’re aware that some users are having trouble accessing their accounts. We know it’s frustrating, and we’re working quickly to fix the issue,” said the tweet.

It is, however, unclear if the social media giant has been hit by a cyber attack or it is some technical issue. Instagram’s app users, on the other hand, are also not happy with the situation. Currently, the app displays “Couldn’t refresh the feed” error.

At the time of publishing this article, Instagram’s website was online for us here in Milan, Italy but tweets sent out to HackRead from readers showed that website is displaying “5xx server error.”

Facebook and Instagram Suffer Outage Worldwide

5xx server error is a general HTTP status code that means something has gone wrong on the website’s server, but the server could not be more specific on what the exact problem was.

Moreover, Instagram’s app also failed to load or refresh the feed. The Facebook-owned platform has billions of users worldwide, therefore, its outage matters and hopefully, the service will be back online for everyone.
